Boise State head football coach has led the Broncos to three conference titles in three seasons
BOISE, Idaho – After leading Boise State to its third consecutive conference championship, Boise State head football coach Spencer Danielson has agreed to a contract extension through the 2030 season, Boise State Athletics announced on Monday. The contract is subject to final approval by the Idaho State Board of Education.
Danielson, who took the helm of Boise State football as the interim head coach towards the end of the 2023 campaign, has led the Broncos to a 24-8 record in his two-plus seasons as the head coach. He also lifted the Broncos to a top-10 national ranking and College Football Playoff appearance in 2024 as well as a 14-1 home record on The Blue and three straight conference titles.
By claiming the 2025 Mountain West crown this past season, Danielson joined Lincoln Riley (Oklahoma, 2017-19) as the only two coaches to win three consecutive FBS conference titles in the first three seasons of their career.
"Spencer is elite, and we're so happy to have him continuing to serve our football program as its head coach," said Jeramiah Dickey, Boise State Director of Athletics. "He leads with his heart and cares deeply about our student-athletes as young men, all the while still raising the bar for our competitive excellence each year. He surrounds himself with the right staff and student-athletes, and he is a servant leader which shines through every day. We're grateful for him and excited to have him as the leader of Boise State football and our community for years to come."
"Boise is home for my family, and we're proud to represent this football program, university, community, and state through the role I have as the leader of Boise State football," said Danielson. "I'm thankful for the players and staff who make this program great every day. I always believe the best is yet to come for Boise State, and it's because of the Broncos from yesterday, today and tomorrow who pour into this place through their hard work and dedication to the team. It's also because of Bronco Nation, who I believe are the best fans in the country. The people at Boise State show my family each and every day why we want to be here."
The 2026 campaign will mark Danielson's 10th as a member of the Bronco coaching staff, having climbed the ranks of the program after starting as a graduate assistant in 2017. He was the fifth Boise State head coach to win at least 20 of his first 25 games at the helm of the program, joining Lyle Smith, Tony Knap, Dan Hawkins and Chris Petersen.Â
In addition to the team success in his first seasons leading the Broncos, Danielson was named the MW Coach of the Year in 2024 as well as AFCA Region 5 Coach of the Year and the Grant Teaff Coach of the Year. He was a finalist for the AFCA National Coach of the Year and a semifinalist for the George Munger Coach of the Year award. He earned the honors after his first full season as a head coach, when the Broncos earned the No. 3 seed in the College Football Playoff. Boise State finished with 12 wins in 2024, matching their most wins in a single season over the last 10 years.Â
Danielson and the Broncos will open the 2026 season at Oregon on Saturday, Sept. 5. Boise State's home opener will take place the following Saturday (Sept. 12) against Memphis. Full kickoff times and TV selections for the 2026 campaign will be announced later this spring.
Season tickets for the 2026 campaign will go on sale to new purchasers in May. For those interested today, fans can join the season ticket waitlist.
